Late Summer Beauty Routine

August 9, 2017

Every year when August hits I find myself wishing for cooler temps, shorter days, and cozy evenings. But if there’s one thing I do like about summer is the ability to wear minimal makeup and get away with it. Summer screams that carefree, boho, no makeup, makeup look and it’s easily achieved with just a few key products and a solid skincare routine.

I will preface this post by saying that if you’re not taking care of your skin, no amount of coverage you apply will give you that glowing complexion you crave – it will actually just make you look like you’re wearing a mask, and believe me those foundation-face days are long in the past. Healthy skin starts from within so make sure you’re eating foods with loads of vitamins and drinking enough water daily. Then, use a skin care system that works with your skin – my current favorites are the Jeffrey James Botanicals line and the Thursday Plantation line.

But for makeup, I keep it light and neutral and it only takes about 5 minutes tops to get the job done!

ONE | Prime

When I know I’m taking photos or going to be wearing makeup all day long I like to prime my face with a natural-based primer that minimizes pores and leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean while keeping my foundation in place. This primer from Arbonne is my current go-to.

TWO | Foundation

During the summer months, I tend to fall in between shades for my foundation so I actually do a little at-home mixing and combine my trusty Clinique Redness Solutions foundation with the Bare Minerals tinted moisturizer. This adds some much-needed moisture back to my face and blends super well to create a dewy and glowing complexion.

THREE | Mascara

I’ve been going sans mascara for a couple weeks now – really just trying to give my eyelashes a break – and while I have gotten the ‘oh you look tired today’ compliment from friends and family, it’s slowly become a lovely habit to get into. But when I do add a swipe of mascara I’ve been using Covergirl’s Lash Blast mascara but want to get back into the habit of buying my favorite luxury-brand mascara, Stila.

FOUR | Highlighter/ Blush

If the summer sun hasn’t quite stuck around long enough I finish off my look with a light dusting of a beautiful, shimmer-based product from one of my new favorite makeup brands 100% Pure.  They kindly sent me samples of some of their products to try and the luminizing power Moonstone Glow is just beautiful. It adds a bit of shimmer without going OTT and sets your summer glow in place.

And that’s it! My 5-minute summer makeup look, complete. Every now and again I swipe on some neutral shadow, brush through my eyebrows, and add some contouring, but that’s typically only for photos or special occasions. I’d love to know what your go-to products are for the summer while we’re still in the midst of our 85-degree temps. Comment below and let me know!
