How hard is it to believe that summer is winding down already? While I’m eager to start pulling out my sweaters and scarves, August is typically the hottest (muggiest) part of the summer in South Carolina. Sometimes I can’t resist pulling out my lightweight sweaters and booties to pair with shorts and a tank, but for the most part, I’m resisting the urge to wear too many of my fall favorites.

So in the meantime – while the fashion world introduces their fall collections – I’m going to do a late summer review of fashion essentials that keep my chugging along, content with my clothing, until the weather drops below 75.

A Simple Sheath

Maybe you’re not like me and are desperately hanging on to summer as long as you can. First off, good for you, and second of all, even you summer goddesses won’t argue that you cannot go wrong with simple summer dresses. I love plain-colored, simple dresses that can be worn alone or layered when the weather does turn chilly.

The Plain White Shoe

Known for it’s casual simplicity, I’ve been enjoying playing around with the white canvas tennis shoe this summer – pairing them with everything from jean shorts to day dresses. It’s a refreshing take on the traditional sandal and keeps your toes covered for evening bike rides or uptown festivals. While I prefer my basic white Keds, so many brands have come out with their own version of the plain white sneaker and it’s fun to mix and match outfits with their own subtle flairs.

Versatile Tees and Tanks

When the temperatures soar there’s nothing better than to simplify your outfit with a basic tee or tank that fits to perfection and isn’t grundgy. That’s right, as much as I love my white t-shirts it is so hard to keep them clean. I find myself picking up new ones every year or so in order to keep them looking fresh and nice. There’s nothing better than your favorite, comfy t-shirt paired with a darling skirt or shorts to keep away the August heat!

A Relaxed Romper

Maybe it’s just me but I feel like the romper/jumpsuit trend has banished the ‘trendy’ label and gone straight for ‘classic’. Now, you can find a romper in every cut and color and I couldn’t be happier. There’s nothing better than throwing on one piece of clothing and looking oh so polishesd – it’s every fashion girl’s dream! Find your favorite fit and style and stick to it all season long. You won’t ever regret a lightweight romper on a hot summer night.
